Chris Cannon, a loyal and strangely enthusiastic Digitech fan, was one of the first lucky people to win a Whammy DT and get a chance to play it before anyone else. He was kind enough to spell out his thoughts on the new Whammy. Here is what our first guest blogger had to say.

The DigiTech Whammy DT is the newest Whammy pedal from DigiTech and I must say in these simple words: IT IS …

AWESOME!!

First off, you get all the classic Whammy functions. But if you take a closer look you can see the guys at Digitech added something.

You can go up a 5^th and 4^th, also down a 5^th, 4^th, and down a 2^nd. I was told these features were in the “Bass Whammy” that was out in the 90’s.

The Dive bomb effect is also packed in. The Harmony side of the pedal is almost the same with an added up b3rd. The Shallow and deep effects are also on this side of the pedal.

Now, on to the new (and awesome) feature; Drop Tune!

The previous Whammy you could go to the Drop Tune effect and it would drop tune your sound one whole step.

DigiTech went above and beyond for this new pedal.

They gave you the choice to drop tune ONE FULL OCTAVE! Take your guitar (or bass) sound down a ½ step, whole step, and so on. All the way to 8 steps down!

But it gets better.

What is the opposite of down? That’s right… Up, you can go 8 steps up as well!

You can also use the Drop Tune side and the Whammy side at the same time!

You can set the Drop Tune function how you want it, turn it on, then go to the Whammy side, click it, and boom! 2 pedals on at once.

So if you really want to hit a high note, set the Drop Tune side to 8 up, then use the Whammy side at 2 Oct up…

You may piss the dog off or break a window! hahaha…

If you want the lowest note these pedal can make, you can do that too. Just be sure you have a clean pair of shorts.

One cool feature on this pedal is the “Momentary” button. This button allows you to use the drop tune function fast and easy.

Let me explain.

Just hit and hold your foot on that button to activate the effect, and then simply lift your foot to turn it off.

This pedal also has a foot switch input allowing you to have a hands free option to switch sounds and effects.

Also it has a Midi input to plug the pedal into a midi controller so you can use the controller, or mod wheel, to switch the drop tune effects.

I used this pedal live the other night and the crowd had to pick up their jaws.

The sound was clear, the pitch of the effects did not get lost in the live mix. The casing of the pedal can handle live issues like stomping on it hard. I used the drop tune and Whammy functions and the crowd loved it.

I wanted to get the rock star ending but have it heavy and destructive (in a good way); this pedal can do that for you. This pedal will open doors for almost endless possibilities, in sound and how you may write your music.
